Acceptance of key patent application in the USA

Helsinki, Finland – January 8, 2026:
BroadBit Batteries Oy, a leader in innovative sodium-based battery solutions, is pleased to announce the acceptance of its patent application 17/288,417 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This milestone marks a significant advancement in the company's portfolio of green energy technologies, reinforcing its position at the forefront of sustainable battery development.
The accepted patent application covers a rechargeable electrochemical cell featuring a novel anode composition and compatible electrolytes. Specifically, the main claim describes: "A rechargeable electrochemical cell comprising a cathode, an anode, and an electrolyte, at least in part, between the anode and the cathode, wherein the anode material comprises a matrix material: distributed material composite, and wherein the matrix material comprises metallic sodium metal and the distributed material comprises a metal and the distributed material metal that is different from the matrix material, wherein the electrolyte comprises an NH3, SO2, ether, carbonate, or nitrile solvent based electrolyte, or any mixture or combination thereof.
"This innovation enables higher energy density, improved safety, and cost-effective production using abundant materials like sodium, addressing key challenges in the transition to carbon-free energy and transportation. By leveraging metallic sodium in a composite anode structure paired with versatile electrolyte options, the technology promises enhanced performance for applications in electric vehicles, renewable energy storage, and beyond.
"We are excited about this acceptance, as it validates our groundbreaking work in sodium battery chemistries," said David Brown, CEO of BroadBit Batteries. "This patent strengthens our intellectual property foundation and accelerates our path to commercializing batteries that are not only more efficient and affordable but also environmentally sustainable. It's a crucial step toward displacing traditional lithium-ion solutions and powering a greener future."BroadBit Batteries continues to expand its patent portfolio, with this acceptance building on previous grants in high-energy and high-power battery technologies. The company is actively pursuing national phase approvals in other key markets worldwide.
