UPS batteries are gaining popularity. In the past, UPS was used mainly in hospitals, server rooms, mobile network base stations. These days, a growing number of businesses and even private houses consider installing UPS batteries in order to keep the lights on. Moreover, many businesses and homes are looking for a new battery type; the "seasonal battery". The idea of this battery type is to be charged up in summer, and it then provides electricity during winter months, when grid capacity is scarce. The UPS and seasonal batteries are large installations, and their requirements differ from ordinary mobile phone or electric car batteries.

While, UPS and seasonal batteries do not need long cycle life, they do need VERY long calendar life, measured in decades. Their owners want to be sure that once installed, these batteries will reliably serve through many years.

Thirdly, these batteries need to support a wide operating temperature range as they may be installed in rooftops or containers without air conditioning.

In other words: low-cost materials combine with low-cost manufacturing. Our SO2 solvent based electrolyte is known to provide multi-decade calendar life. These sodium-salt batteries operate in the -20 to +60 Celsius temperature range.
