BroadBit Batteries has received the prestigious European Commission Seal of Excellence for its outstanding proposal to the Horizon2020 SME Instrument program. The Certificate was delivered by the European Commission, as the institution managing Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation 2014-2020. The project proposal 738831, “SodiumPower: Scale-up of breakthrough battery technology for more affordable electric vehicles with extended driving range” was submitted under the Horizon 2020’s SME instrument phase 2 call (H2020-SMEINST-2-2016-2017) of 15 June 2016 in the area of Small business innovation research for Transport and Smart Cities Mobility. Following evaluation by an international panel of independent experts, the proposal was successful in a highly competitive evaluation process as an innovative project proposal, meaning that it passed all stringent Horizon 2020 assessment thresholds for the 3 award criteria (excellence, impact, quality and efficiency of implementation) required to receive funding from the EU budget Horizon 2020.

Upon receiving the award, CEO, David Brown noted “The Horizon2020 program is very competitive with a very low success rate of around 2%. We are honored to have been one of the very few selected as a successful proposal and for the evaluators at the commission to understand the excellence of our technology, its impact on the society, the quality of our team and our proven ability to implement our development and commercialization plans.”
